VicGrid
Empowering Victoria's
renewable future.
To support VicGrid’s role delivering the Victorian Transmission Plan and coordinating development of Victoria's renewable energy zones (REZs), CreateBig provides end-to-end geospatial and data management services.
CreateBig is partnering with VicGrid to develop the Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) Hub - a GIS-based decision-support platform that enables robust renewable energy site planning by evaluating and comparing location options against multiple complex criteria, such as land use, biodiversity, cultural values, and renewable resource quality.
Challenge
Renewable energy strategic planning processes need to be transparent and repeatable, so that communities, government agencies, industry and other special interest groups understand the complex data and methods used to underpin decisions. Decision-makers must weigh environmental sustainability against engineering feasibility, economic viability, cultural values, and regulatory requirements, all while maintaining community trust and support.
Solution
CreateBig big developed the Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) Hub, a GIS-based decision-support platform that uses geographic data to evaluate and compare different site options by analysing multiple complex factors simultaneously, including land use, biodiversity, cultural values, and renewable resource quality.
Underpinned by strong data governance controls and standards, the platform supports high-quality, consistent, and accountable use of geospatial information and provides a suite of geospatial analysis and metadata management tools, delivering configurable and automated multi-criteria analysis modelling.
Impact
The MCA Hub puts powerful data analysis tools directly into the hands of decision makers. MCA Hub outputs, such as data-driven dashboards and interactive maps are supporting stakeholder engagement, communication and visualisation.
With our ‘enter once, configure often’ approach, CreateBig is empowering VicGrid through accessible, fast, and transparent spatial analysis capabilities, underpinning a strategic long-term plan and ensuring Victoria has the right infrastructure in place at the right time to support its transition to renewable energy.
